CFNEM Receives GLSI Grant
9/30/2009
CFNEM was awarded a grant of $197,000 from the Great Lakes Fishery Trust. The money will be used to support the Northeast Michigan Great Lakes Stewardship Initiative, a place-based environmental education project for schools in six counties in northeast Michigan. The grant was prepared and submitted by MSU Extension-Sea Grant Program. CFNEM will act as the fiscal agent and the AMAESD (Alpena, Montmorency, Alcona Educational Service District) and COPESD (Cheboygan, Otsego, Presque Isle Educational Service District) will work with the schools and teachers.
Teachers can apply for up to $6,000 in funding for projects that bring students out of the classroom and into the community to do environmental projects. Community partners assist in bringing the projects to the schools and help work with the students.
